A backdrop to the famous Kollur Mookambika temple, Kodachadri, is also known as Kudajadri and Kodashi Parvatha. Kodachadri is a mountain peak located in Shimoga, Karnataka. The mountain range is located on the western ghat region. This mountain is located right in the middle of the Mookambika National park. The dense forests of this mountain peak are home to numerous flora and fauna.
Standing high at an altitude of 1343m (4163 ft), this mountain peak is the tallest in the Shimoga region. Watching sunset from the Kodachadri mountain peak is a beautiful sight. On a cloudless day, you can get to see the Arabian Sea.
Places to see in Kodachadri
Sarvajna peeta: Adi Shankara did his meditation here. A small temple was built to mark the event. One has to trek uphill to reach this spot.
Chitramoola: A small cave located on the downhill path, the Kollur temple can be viewed from this spot.
Hidlumane waterfalls: About ten kilometers from Kodachadri, this falls offers a good trekking opportunity.
Arasinagundi falls: This falls in located closer to Kollur and is at the bottom of the Kodachadri mountain peak. This falls is located deep in the forest.
Belakallu theertha: Trekkers can take this opportunity to see the beautiful terrain.
Moola Mookambika Temple: This temple is supposed to be origin of the Goddess Mookambika
Venkatarayana Durga: A hillock from where you can catch a spectacular sunrise.
Kodachadri trekking
Kodachadri is a popular trekking spot. Trekking begins from various places based on the trekker’s appetite for trekking - right from the base of the mountain or any of the neighboring village. The common starting point for trekking is the Kodachadri Gate (Karakatte Gate) or Nittur village. Carry along water and snacks. The entire trekking route reflects nature’s bounty.
Greenery and the pleasant smell of mountain plants and trees fill the air with a completely different aroma. The fresh crisp air and the crystal clear waters flowing down the hills quench the thirst of every trekker. En-route, trekkers can come across the well-known Agathya theertha falls.
Kodachadri weather
To enjoy the best of this green locale, visit Kodachadri post-monsoon. September to January is the best season to visit Kodachadri.
The nearest railway station is at Shimoga. Well-connected by road, Kodachadri can be reached by road from Bengalauru as well as Mangalore. The nearest airport is Mangalore.
Not much choice of accommodation is available in Kodachadri. Kollur and Kundapura are places close by. Home stay facility is available near Kodachadri and Sampekatte.
